After arguably the closest series of the season and one of the most cinematic matches in VCC APAC history, the highly anticipated Lower Final finally concluded on Wednesday night.
The goddess of victory smiled upon Legend of Zod (LOZ), who edged out My Little Ken (MLK) in a hard-fought 2-1 series as both teams fought until the very end.
We caught up with two of MLK’s standout players, iongers, the #2 overall rated player in the VCC scene, and alody, MLK's high-flying duelist, to reflect on their incredible run, the heartbreaking Lower Final defeat, and what comes next after a memorable season.
Interview conducted by qwert following the conclusion of the Lower Finals.
qwert: iongers, you were one series away from the Grand Final. After coming this far, how does it feel to have the run end here?
iongers: Well, of course, I feel gutted, especially after placing top 3 in back-to-back seasons, but it was a good experience, and it was really fun playing with these players.
Q: What does this loss mean for the future of your playing career in VCC?
iongers: This is probably my last season because of exams, so I'm likely to retire.
Q: To alody, both teams entered the playoffs as #1 seeds. What do you think separates you from LOZ today?
alody: I think both teams were neck and neck today, both in terms of star power and teamwork. That being said, I think LOZ just edged us out in mid-rounding and protocols. Their retakes are very effective when they are allowed to set up and they just had the better read on a few rounds.
Q: If you could replay one round or moment from today, which would it be?
alody: We could have definitely closed it out on Sunset on the 24th round. I knew that kyo would peek into my wall but I mistimed my stun, making it so that he still had the chance to swing out to kill me and then protect Addie from being traded. I’m sure this will haunt me some time in the future but I can’t help but imagine a reality where I got a clean entry there.
Q: Is there anything you feel that you need to change going into the next season?
alody: My mental and my macro definitely. In a way, both are linked. There were a lot of moments, especially in this game where I was too tunnel-visioned to make the correct play. I overheat a lot as a result of this. Learning how to macro more effectively will definitely make me a more complete player.
Q: Back to iongers, how difficult is it to lose this close to the Grand Final after making it last season?
iongers: It’s truly devastating, especially since I felt like we really had what it took to win it all this season. Being just one round away from securing the Upper Finals on Haven makes losing like this to LOZ even harder to swallow.
Q: What do you want to say to the fans who supported you throughout the tournament?
iongers: Thank you all for the support throughout the run. I'm really sorry we couldn't close it out in the end.
This marks the end of MLK's dominant run, with the team remaining undefeated all the way through the Upper Final before their Lower Final exit.
Ken, Jam, Boostie, ab4yfx, alody, and iongers gave it their all throughout the season, delivering one of VCC’s strongest runs yet. Their journey ends with a well-earned third place finish in VCC APAC Season 12. A result that reflects the consistency, resilience, and fight they showed from start to finish.
