Matches Affected:
- ICY (The Polars) vs ATLS (Atlas)
- 50S (50 Shoplifters) vs ICY (The Polars)
Subject: Player Eligibility, Alternate Account & Competitive Integrity Violation
Applicable Rule: C7 — Player Eligibility & Restrictions
1. Background
Following further review of ICY’s participation in VLR Community Cup OCE Season 6, Executive Tournament Administration conducted an investigation into the eligibility of players competing on the ICY roster.
During this investigation, it was determined that ICY player “mist” competed using an alternate account.
Executive Tournament Administration also established that “mist” had previously been banned by Riot Games for win-trading on their primary account.
Despite this existing Riot Games enforcement action, “mist” participated in VCC OCE Season 6 using an alternate account.
2. Previous Infractions
ICY have previously received disciplinary action during VLR Community Cup OCE Season 6 for the following violations:
First Warning — A9 Section 2 & D3
ICY received their first written warning for matters relating to late forfeits/no-shows and match start procedures, in violation of:
- A9 Section 2 — Match Forfeits & No-Shows: Repeated late forfeits or unexplained no-shows are subject to progressive disciplinary action, beginning with a written warning for the first offence.
- D3 — Match Start Procedures & No-Show Policy: Teams are required to field five valid players within the designated 15-minute grace period, with repeated no-shows subject to further disciplinary action.
As a result, ICY were issued their first written warning.
Second Warning — C3 & C4
ICY subsequently received a second warning for violations relating to the substitution process:
- C3 — Substitution Request Procedure: A substitution request was submitted outside the required one-hour timeframe and was not able to undergo the required verification process prior to the match.
- C4 — Unapproved or Improper Substitutions: The substitution was not properly verified and approved in accordance with tournament procedures.
These previous infractions form part of ICY’s disciplinary record during VCC OCE Season 6. The current disqualification is based specifically on the confirmed C7 — Player Eligibility & Restrictions violation.
3. C7 — Player Eligibility & Restrictions
Section C7 states:
Eligibility Verification: Substitute players must not be under any active tournament suspensions, bans, or otherwise ineligible under the tournament’s rules.
Prohibition on Smurfing & Impersonation: Use of alternate accounts (smurf accounts) or impersonation to gain unfair advantage is strictly forbidden. Violation will result in immediate disqualification and potential bans.
The use of an alternate account by “mist” constitutes a direct violation of the tournament’s prohibition on alternate accounts and player eligibility restrictions.
4. Determination
Executive Tournament Administration has determined that:
- “mist” was previously banned by Riot Games for win-trading on their primary account.
- “mist” subsequently competed in VCC OCE Season 6 using an alternate account.
- The use of the alternate account constitutes a confirmed violation of Section C7.
- “mist” participated in ICY’s matches against ATLS and 50S while using the alternate account.
- The C7 violation warrants the immediate disqualification of ICY from the competition.
5. Sanctions
Effective immediately:
- ICY (The Polars) are disqualified from VLR Community Cup OCE Season 6.
- The affected matches involving ICY, including ATLS vs ICY and 50S vs ICY, will be subject to the appropriate forfeiture procedures.
- “mist” is permanently banned from participating as a player in VLR Community Cup.
The permanent ban applies to all future VLR Community Cup competitions, regardless of account, alias, or team affiliation.
Any attempt to circumvent this ban through an alternate account, alias, or other means will constitute a further disciplinary violation.
6. Final Statement
Player eligibility and account integrity are fundamental to maintaining a fair and competitive tournament environment.
The use of alternate accounts to circumvent existing competitive restrictions undermines the integrity of the tournament and provides an unfair means of participation.
Given the confirmed violation of Section C7, ICY are disqualified from VLR Community Cup OCE Season 6, while “mist” is permanently prohibited from competing as a player in all future VLR Community Cup competitions.
Whilst the result of the investigation for this ruling has been lamentable, we would still like to appreciate ICY (The Polars) for their full cooperation and are devastated it ended this way.
